Erika Brooks is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified
Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of Virginia. She received her
Masters of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia
Commonwealth University. She has received training in working with
clients with depression, anxiety, stress management, and compassion
fatigue. Erika enjoys working with women’s health issues, self-care, and
trauma and grief therapy. She has worked as a family therapist,
providing intensive in-home counseling, co-facilitated anger management
groups and parent support groups. She has also worked as a part of an
emergency services team at a local community services board, completing
evaluations for psychiatric hospitalizations, and assessments for
services with the CSB.
Erika is the owner of Enlightenment Counseling Services, LLC where she
provides outpatient counseling to a wide variety of clients- men, women,
and adolescents- with concerns including depression, anxiety, stress
management, and substance abuse. She also provides trainings and
education on various mental health topics and self-care. She has been
the guest on several podcasts to discuss topics around mental health and
self-care, particularly in the African American community. She is the
coauthor of “Pearls: Wisdom and Advice from Emerging Women Leaders” and
“Positioned to Pivot”. Erika also is a contributing writer for Hope
Magazine for Women.
Outside of her professional world, Erika is active in her church-
working a church clerk and serving on several ministries. She is a proud
member of the NAACP and National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Richmond
Metropolitan Chapter where she is currently the 3rd Vice President of
Membership and Health Committee Chair.
