Grief is a fact of life. While there many articles and books that have been published on the subject of grief, very little is available on how to deal with it effectively. The church often plays an important role in helping with coping with a loss. During time of loss people in the congregation will turn to (for guidance) or away from the church.
We need to show the love of Christ when people are grieving. The same love and compassion that Jesus showed when Lazarus died. Sometimes we need to be silent (Job 2:13). When we give poor advice or judge someone for grieving, they will hide their pain, which will foster bitterness and lack of trust.
During our time of grief, we must remain confident in who God is. We must understand that it is okay to mourn, fast, and pray “before” God. Nehemiah 1
