Understanding Grief: Prescription for Your Broken Heart
Because grief is one of the most misunderstood growth processes, it can provide a space for myths to rapidly spread. As children we were taught that hurtful and painful feelings should be avoided at all cost. Therefore, discussing grief can be awkward, difficult, and even painful at times. As a result, seeds are planted and space created for myths to proliferate, which may make it harder for us to grieve.
People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don’t tell you what you need to do to accomplish that. In this session, you’ll learn what life events may trigger the emotions of grief, grief myths, and tools to move beyond a place of pain and despair to healing and restoration.
Session Length: 60 minutes (45-minute presentation with 15-minute Q&A)
Hidden Cost of Grief in the Workplace:
Grief is a fact of life. While there are many articles and books that have been published on the subject of grief, very little is available on how to deal with it in the workplace. This is unfortunate because grief can dramatically impact the work environment. The cost of losing a loved one will tax employers approximately $100 billion per year. With heightened awareness, and some simple practical shifts in communication, the cost could be substantially mitigated. This session provides employers with tools to plan ahead so they can deal with their grieving staff more effectively and greatly mitigate this cost.
Session Length: 60 minutes (45-minute presentation with 15-minute Q&A)
